Plan B

Do you have a plan B?

Until yesterday I never thought I would need one but am I ever glad I do! In these difficult economical times it is becoming more and more common for individuals to have multiple sources of income. The trick is, if something happens to you or your spouse will you be able to continue to work and bring in a paycheque or would you have to take time off? Paid or unpaid.

While playing with our toddler in the backyard on Thursday evening my husband never imagined injuring himself and being unable to return to work for an undefined amount of time while he healed BUT that's exactly what happened. Somehow, despite being completely healthy with no previous health concerns while running around playing with our 19 month old, he managed to dislocate and fracture his knee. He wound up in a full leg splint (a Zimmer splint) with crutches and has been extremely limited in his activities. Everything has suddenly become so challenging. Things you would never even think of at 31 years old like getting up the stairs into your home, climbing two flights of stairs to get to your bedroom, showering, carrying anything (because he cannot weight-bear whatsoever on his left leg), caring for our toddler or helping out with household maintenance and chores. Suddenly, everything has fallen on me. Which, as a mom of two, a wife, a nurse and an entrepreneur, means my plate was already full. Suddenly we are unsure what his recovery time will look like and what that will mean to us financially. My husband, who normally commutes nearly an hour each way to his work each day is now unable to drive due to the pain medications and difficulty of fitting into a vehicle while wearing a full-length leg brace that keeps his leg permanently extended. So now we wait until his fracture clinic follow-up appointment next Wednesday to hear from the specialist what his next steps will be. This in itself is enough to stress anyone out.

Lucky for us, I decided a year ago to say yes to jump in to a Network Marketing career as a Plan B. Today, I am SO thankful that I did! This extra income each month allows me the breathing room I need to stay sane and get through these challenging times ahead for our little family. It allows me the strength to stand tall and step up as a provider, it allows me social time to refresh and get a much needed break from home life, and it allows me to feel supported by the incredibly uplifting and positive people I have come to friend in this industry. I don't know what I would do without it at the moment.

I would love to hear your thoughts and stories on this one so please share in the comments!

With love and gratitude,
Amanda
xoxo
